Setting up a new group
FASS has been established since 1986 and since then we have helped set various family support groups throughout Glasgow. These groups offer a vital lifeline to family members who often feel isolated, depressed and stigmatized due to their loved one's drug or alcohol problems.
Starting and being involved in a group allows members to share their
experiences, offer support and empathy to one another, in a
welcoming and non judgemental environment.
To start up a family support group you need:-
Premises to hold your meetings, such as a room in a community
A small amount of money to cover costs such as
Other people whose lives have been affected by a loved one's
drug or alcohol problems.
A commitment to meet on a regular basis, usually for an hour or
two weekly, fortnightly or monthly.
Support to get you started
FASS has an experienced team of staff and volunteers who can give you help and advice on getting started.
Our Volunteer / Group Coordinator can provide support in areas such as Governance and basic book keeping to help your group get established.
We can help you source suitable premises and introduce you to other family support groups who can offer a wealth of knowledge and experience.
If you are interested in starting a group or would like information on joining one of our existing groups, please contact our Volunteer/Group Coordinator or FASS on 0141 420 2050.
